Menu of Energy Issues

Here's what's hot on the Energy front:

S 2095 - Energy Policy Act
Sen. Pete V. Domenici (R-NM)

It's this year's remix of last year's Energy Omnibus Bill, packed full of special expenditures and pork but also addressing crucial energy policies such as power grid reliability and domestic energy sources.   How badly do we need reform?   And which approaches will serve us best, today and tomorrow?

Here are other Energy issues we're considering.
Which one would you like to see next?

  • S 794 - Automobile Fuel Efficiency Improvements Act
    Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-IL)

This bill requires car-makers to improve the number of miles per gallon their automobiles get, increasing the average from 25 to 40 mpg over the next 10 years.   Trucks would be required to improve from 17 to 27.5 mpg.

  • Strategic Petroleum Reserves
Currently, the U.S. is adding to our national oil reserves in an effort to stash 700 million barrels (an increase from 600 million barrels pre-9/11).   Although President Bush wants to continue these purchases, some politicians say we should stop, at least while prices are high.   Others are calling for the release of these reserves in an effort to curb soaring gasoline prices.

The next Energy issue on Voter Votes should be:
1. Automobile Fuel Efficiency Improvements Act

2. Strategic Petroleum Reserves
